To advance efforts in juvenile justice and child protection for law enforcement and community partners, IACP offers a portfolio of training and technical assistance products and services on juvenile justice, children exposed to violence, and child sex trafficking.

Juvenile Justice

The Improving Law Enforcement Responses to Youth Training and Technical Assistance program, funded through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, aims to increase the capacity of law enforcement to reduce juvenile crime, delinquency, and victimization based on the following goals:

  • Increase the focus on juvenile justice issues within the law enforcement community
  • Encourage the development of innovative and effective law enforcement youth programs
  • Educate law enforcement and allied juvenile justice stakeholders on pertinent juvenile justice issues
  • Improve law enforcement’s effectiveness in promoting public safety and reducing juvenile crime, delinquency, and victimization

Children Exposed to Violence

The Enhancing Law Enforcement Response to Children Exposed to Violence project, supported by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, focuses on increasing the understanding of children exposed to violence (CEV) among law enforcement leaders and officers through the following goals:

  • Increase the focus on juvenile justice and child protection issues within the law enforcement community
  • Utilize and refine existing best-practice models of training for law enforcement professionals
  • Create a series of tools and resources to equip law enforcement agency operations, activities, policies and procedures
  • Promote best practices regarding successful collaborations with multi-disciplinary professionals responding to CEV

Child Sex Trafficking

The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Toolkit for Law Enforcement project, supported by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), U.S. Department of Justice, focuses on improving the ability of law enforcement officers to recognize and respond to child sex trafficking through the following goals:

  • Educate law enforcement on relevant child sex trafficking issues
  • Produce tools and resources for law enforcement on how to recognize and respond to child sex trafficking victims
  • Determine gaps/needs and identify promising practices in the field
  • Promote law enforcement coordination with federal agencies, multi-jurisdictional task forces and non-profit service providers involved in child sex trafficking
